The Animates: The River of Life is an illustrated children’s book written by Natalie Reeves Billing, created as part of the Animates project, and sponsored by several key maritime organisations. This book was created to introduce the next generation to the booming maritime industry which revolves around the River Mersey in Liverpool. I partnered with designer Tom Smith to create the visuals for this book, maintaining the Animates’ signature style, designing new characters, and exploring a world of new locations for the tale to take place within. The project also involved communicating with various associations to ensure exciting but also sensitive representation of their respective departments.
